
The Emery Spartan track squad had its last tune-up before the Region 12 Championships. On Friday, they took part in the Brigham Young Invitational. The Lady Spartans had powerful performances by Addy Guymon, Skylee Guymon, and Gentry Christiansen. Emery took second place among 3A squads and tied for seventh overall out of over 50 teams that participated.
This was Emery’s last regular-season meet. On Wednesday, the postseason will start with the two-day Region 12 Championships hosted by Carbon High School.
Snow Canyon finished the meet in first with 69 points; Pine View was in second with 59. Union (39), Park City (32), Lone Peak (32), and Mountain Ridge (30) rounded out the top five. Emery, Corner Canyon, and Timpview tied for seventh with 29 points.
Addy Guymon earned a second-place finish in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:32.75, just behind Lone Peak’s Maya Bybee’s time of 10:28.87. Gentry Christiansen finished in eighth. Addy Guymon finished in third in the 1600 meters, with Christiansen taking tenth.
Skylee Guymon was fantastic on the hurdles, taking second in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 14.57 behind Tia Brown of Snow Canyon and her time of 13.89. Skylee Guymon finished third in the 300-meter hurdles as well.
Emery will now head to Carbon High on Wednesday for the Region 12 Championships. The event will wrap up on Thursday, and then the season will close the following weekend at the State Championships, May 16 & 17, when they return to BYU.
