Our beloved mother and grandmother, Lois Wilson Olsen, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Syracuse, Utah on May 5, 2025 from age related issues.
Lois was born in Duchesne, Utah on Saturday, October 8, 1927, to Clarence Leonard Wilson and Henrietta Gee Wilson. She graduated from Carbon High and married her high school sweetheart, Reid Lamon (Bill) Olsen, on September 1, 1946 at her parents’ ranch in Duchesne, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Utah Temple in 1964. Reid & Lois’s union was less than two months short of celebrating their 67th anniversary together.
Lois’s feet became firmly planted as a resident of Carbon County for 82 years when her family moved to Spring Canyon when she was six years old. She loved Carbon County and was proud to say she was a “coal miner’s” wife. It was with much hesitation when she left her home in Helper at age 90 to move closer to her daughter.
She served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many callings over the years, which included twice as a ward Relief Society president as well as in the stake Relief Society presidency. She also taught and served in the various other organizations of the Church. She was a faithful visiting/ministering sister up until two years ago. With her husband, she served two stake missions. She was a member of the Helper Ward for more than 58 years. She loved her Savior and had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She loved going to the temple.
Lois participated in many community activities and projects which included serving as an election judge for 20 plus years. She was also a member and actively participated in the Utah Daughters of Pioneers. She and her husband were honored as Grand Marshals of the Helper City Christmas Parade in 1999. She loved to quilt and crochet to which her children and grandchildren were recipients of her talents; but her diminished eyesight limited her ability to do many of the things she enjoyed.
She cared about the needs of others. She could always be counted on to help and serve her family, friends, neighbors, and ward members. Lois was always energetic and dependable with any job, responsibility or calling by going above and beyond. She was also a very meticulous homemaker and great cook.
Fond memories were carried by her of traveling with her sweetheart to Egypt, Jerusalem, Ireland, Scotland, England, and Canada and throughout the states of this nation along with various cruise destinations with one on the Nile River.
Lois is survived by three children, Ginger Lynne (Ernest) Miller, Syracuse, UT; Steven (Gail) Olsen (Katy, TX) and Alan Bill (Deanna) Olsen (Delta, CO); daughter-in-law, Shelly Olsen (Price UT); 11 grandchildren, Eric (Melissa) Miller (Plain City, UT), Jared Olsen (SLC, UT), Brian (Kristie) Miller (Clinton, UT), Jodi (Jake) Nelson (West Point, UT), Jennifer (Dennis) Davis (Moab, UT), Jayleen (Teddy) Hildebrandt (CO), Stephanie (Sam) Tartakoff (NY), Kyle (Rachel) Olsen (FL), Tonya (Evan) Crowley (NC), Rachael (Troy) Jenkins (TX) and Shandel (Danny) Poveda (UT); 32 great-grandchildren blessed her life, which included three sets of twins, Carter, Jaxson, Gavin, Haylie, Riley, Madison, Mikaela, Vance, Weston, Mylee, Delanie, Adilyna, Elianna, Beckam, Kenley, John, William, Meg, Lucas, Chyles, Elijah, Russell, Kimball, Jorjee, Brian, Greyson, Nellie, Madelyn, Kaylee, Paige, Breckon and Andrew.
