The Emery Spartan baseball team wrapped up its regular season on Monday in Mount Pleasant, where it faced the North Sanpete Hawks. The Spartans collected an 11-0 shutout win, and then on Tuesday, they found out their postseason fate, earning the No. 12 spot in the final RPI.

Emery finished the regular season with an 8-17 overall mark and went 4-10 in Region 12. On Tuesday, the Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI and bracket for the 3A State Championships, with the Spartans landing in the No.12 spot.

Monday was the last day of the regular season, and the Spartans had to play a make-up game with the Hawks. The contest was a defensive battle until the Spartans came alive in the sixth.

Emery started the inning with three singles off the bats of Beau Stilson, Trygg Jensen, and Hayden Abrams. Tyce Larsen stepped up with the bases loaded and sent a double to left field, bringing in Stilson and Jensen. One batter later,  Trevin Gilbert sent a single to the left to drive in Abrams. Later in the inning, with the score sitting at 6-0, Jensen came back to the plate and drilled a single to left, driving in Garrett Conover and Bronx Olsen to give the Spartans the 8-0 lead.

The Spartans made quick work of the Hawks in the bottom of the sixth and then went back to work in the top half of the seventh. With two on, Olsen came up to the plate and, through a series of wild pitches and errors, Larsen would score, and Christiansen got himself into scoring position as Olsen grounded out to the shortstop, but that gave Christiansen just enough time to make it home, putting Emery’s lead at 10-0.  The Spartans added one more off a Stilson single that let Conover come home. Emery got North Sanpete down one-two-three to take the 11-0 win.

Larsen led the way for the Spartans, going 3-4 with two RBIs and scoring two runs. Conover and Jensen each went 2-4, earning two RBIs and one run. Stilson was 2-5 with a pair of RBIs and scored on a run in the rout.

Gilbert got the complete game win on the mound, giving up five hits and striking out six.

Emery will now face the No. 5 Manti Templars on the road starting Thursday. The two teams split their season series, with Manti winning in Castle Dale 9-6 and Emery winning on the road 11-4.

The Super Regional format is best-of-three, with game one taking place on May 8 at 4:00 p.m., game two on Friday, May 9, at 1:00 p.m., and game three, if necessary, following at 3:00 p.m.
