Carbon boys’ volleyball started postseason play on Wednesday at Utah Valley University. In the opening game, they faced Wasatch Academy, taking a 3-0 victory. Game number two was a tough draw for the Dinos as they faced the No. 2 ranked Salt Lake Academy, falling in straight sets to the Griffins 3-0.

The Dinos entered postseason play with the No. 7 spot in the final RPI; their first opponent, the Wasatch Academy Tigers, entered with the No. 10 spot. The two teams squared off once in the regular season, with Carbon winning.

Although Carbon won in straight sets in this match, each set was highly contested. In the first set, the Dinos came out on top 25-20. Sets two and three were both wins for Carbon by the same score, 25-19, giving them the win and advancing them into round two.

In the second match of the evening, Carbon faced Salt Lake Academy. The Griffins were ranked the No. 2 team in 3A with a 24-6 record. Back on April 12, in tournament play, the two teams faced each other, and the Griffins came away with a 3-1 victory.

This match was played much like the one with Wasatch; all three sets were highly competitive. Salt Lake took set one 25-20. The Dinos would fight back in the following two sets but came up short in both by the score of 25-22.

The loss drops Carbon to the semifinal loss round, where they will face American Heritage. In their four meetings this season, the Dinos have come away with one win, back in March, when Carbon claimed a 3-2 victory.

The game with the Patriots starts at 1:00 p.m.. A win and they advance to face the Ogden/Juab match winner immediately following, with the winner claiming fifth place.
