The Spartans traveled to Carbon High to compete in the Region 12 Championships, the final meet of the season before the State finals next week. The Lady Spartans finished third overall, and the boys placed eighth.

The Richfield Wildcats won first place at the meet with 129.5 points, and the Lady Dinos took second with 130.83. Emery (89.66), Canyon View (66.50), and Manti (53.0) rounded out the top five. North Sanpete, Juab, and Delta also competed.

The Lady Spartans used the strength of their relay teams and hurdlers to gain serious points. Skylee Guymon claimed a pair of region titles in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, finishing the 100 in a time of 14.36. Teammate Carlie Hurst finished in second with a 16.05. In the 300, Guymon would turn in a first-place time of 42.93, and Hurst finished eighth.

In the 4×400, Molly Christiansen, Addy Guymon, Skylee Guymon, and Gentry Christiansen ran to a first-place finish with 3:56.92.

Gentry Christiansen earned a region title in the 3200 meters with a time of 11.08.64. Addie Hurst finished in second place in the 1600 meters. In the 800 meters, Addyson Guymon finished in second place at 5:30.00, just off the pace set by Carbon’s Roz Stowe. Hurst would finish fifth. The Lady Spartans’ Molly Christiansen earned a fourth-place finish in the 400 and a seventh-place finish in the 200.

In field events, Megan Stilson and Hallie Frandsen tied for second place in the high jump at 4-9.0. Dazi Thatcher finished eighth in the shot put at 29-0.0, and ninth in the discus with a distance of 85-0.5.

In the boys’ division, Juab claimed the top finish with 129.5 points, Richfield took second with 119.0, and Carbon finished with 99.5 points. Delta (96) and Canyon View (87) comprised the rest of the top five. Manti, North Sanpete. Emery finished in eighth.

Devon Byars earned a fifth-place finish in the discus at 135-9.25. He would go on to take 15th in the shot put.

Jacob Morris finished 20th in the long jump.

Dillon Larsen finished tenth in the 800 meters, and Jacob Erickson took 23rd. Larsen finished ninth in the 1600 meters, with Erickson taking 22nd.

In the 4×100 relay, Morris, Rogun Sitterud, Hunter Leffler, Tage Jensen, and Brekker Bunnell ran to a seventh-place finish.

Next are the State Championships that will take place at Brigham Young University on Thursday and Friday.
