Two Carbon Unified track and field team members were crowned State Champions for their efforts at the championships, taking place at Brigham Young University. Eliza Haddock is the 2025 State Champion in the 50 meters, and Kelcy Richards is the State Champion in the javelin at the Unified meet.
Unified Sports® is a registered Special Olympics program that combines approximately equal numbers of athletes with and without intellectual disability on sports teams for training and competition. All Unified Sports® players, athletes, and Unified Sports partners are of similar age and matched sport skill ability. Unified Sports® teams are placed in competitive divisions based on their skill abilities, and range from training divisions (with a skill-learning focus) to high-level competition.
In 2012, to reach school-aged athletes, Special Olympics Utah formed a partnership with the UHSAA to bring Unified Sports® to Utah’s high schools. The UHSAA/Special Olympics Unified Sports® Program operates throughout the school year and closely follows the school calendar.
Haddock took part in the 50-meter, taking first place in a time of 11.87 to earn first place. She also took second in the shot put with a distance of 15-10.0. Haddock earned a third-place finish in the javelin.
Richards earned her State Championship in the javelin. She also finished fourth in the shot put at 10-8.25.
Congratulations to these two State Champions for Carbon Unified.
