On Wednesday, May 21, at approximately 12:48 p.m., an accident involving a motorcycle that crashed into a tanker truck on US-6 near milepost 268, killing the driver of the motorcycle. The crash shut down westbound traffic for approximately an hour.

The crash occurred when a BMW cross-country motorcycle was traveling up a steep uphill grade in lane #2. “ Ahead of the motorcycle in lane #2 was a semi tractor pulling a tanker trailer with its hazard lights on due to its slow speed as it pulled up the grade,” said the Utah Highway Patrol in a news release. “The motorcycle failed to recognize the slower speed of the semi and crashed into the back of the trailer. Vehicle #3 was driving past the motorcycle and the semi at the time of the collision and sustained minor damage to the vehicle from the debris.”

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Cam Roden stated the driver of the motorcycle died at the scene. The driver of the semi was unhurt.

Initially, the accident halted westbound traffic before a single lane was reopened. Eastbound traffic remained open.

The name of the victim – a 57-year-old man from the Netherlands – has not been released.

This is a breaking story; more updates will be provided as they become available.
