The Carbon boys’ volleyball team put together a terrific second season, going 15-12 overall and 7-5 in region play. The boys seem to be buying into the program and have made significant progress over last season’s record of 8-18. This season, they earned a first-round bye and a win in their second-round match-up with Wasatch Academy. Carbon came up against Salt Lake Academy in the quarterfinals, losing 3-0, dropping them into the loss bracket, where they faced American Heritage, who eventually ended the Dinos’ season 2-0.

Carbon will lose six seniors to graduation, but it has a group of underclassmen ready to step up to the challenge.

Below is a recap of the 2025 Carbon Dino Boys Volleyball team season.

March 4- @ Ogden

March 6- @ Judge Memorial

The Carbon boys’ volleyball squad started things last week with games against Ogden and Judge Memorial. In the contest with Ogden, the Dinos had a rough go of it, losing 3-0, but then turned around and earned a win over Judge Memorial 3-1.

Carbon opened the season on the road, facing the Ogden Tigers. Ogden finished in third place last season and looks like a strong team this season.

The Dinos had a rough start to the match, dropping set one 25-17. In set number two, Carbon slipped even further, falling again 25-13. The Tigers closed out the Dinos 25-17 in the third and final set.

Charles Tima collected four kills, two service aces, and a pair of digs. Grant Mathis had four assists, and Kyler Orth added three blocks in the loss.

They were back on the road to take on Judge Memorial a couple of days later. The Dinos found another gear, needing it for a battle of a third set, and went on to claim a 3-1 win.

The opening set was all Judge Memorial, taking a big 25-10 win over Carbon. In set number two, it was a dogfight as Carbon eked out a 25-23 victory to tie up the match.

The third set was a flat-out battle, as the Dinos dug deep and found a way to take a 32-30 win, going up two sets to one. Moving to the fourth and what would be the final set, Carbon once again found another gear to close out the Bulldogs 25-11 and win the match 3-1.

Tima collected 10 kills and four digs for Carbon. Evan Lancaster had nine kills, four service aces, and three blocks. Carter Warburton had 10 digs and eight kills, and Conner Gleave had 15 assists in the win.

March 11- vs. North Sanpete

On Tuesday evening, Dino boys’ volleyball was on its home floor for the first time this season when it welcomed the North Sanpete Hawks to Price for a region match. Carbon entered the contest at 1-1 overall, looking to get over .500 this season, but it wasn’t to be as the Hawks handed the Dinos a 3-1 loss.

Carbon opened the season with two games on the road, taking a loss at Ogden and earning their first win against Judge Memorial.

Every set was competitive, as the teams seemed evenly matched. North Sanpete won set number one 25-18, and the Hawks took set two by the same 25-18 score. Carbon would return in the third, finding enough to put them over the top and take a 25-20 win. The Hawks closed out the Dinos in set four by a score of  25-17, taking the 3-1 win and dropping Carbon to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 2 play.

Kyler Orth collected seven blocks and totaled six kills for Carbon. Charles Tima had 14 digs, six kills, and four service aces, and Carter Warburton earned six kills in the loss.

March 14 & 15- American Heritage Tournament

March 18- @ American Heritage

Last weekend, the Carbon boys’ volleyball team participated in a small school tournament at American Heritage Academy, earning a first-place finish. On Tuesday, they were back at American Heritage to face the Patriots. After taking a five-set win over the weekend, Tuesday was a different story as the Dinos fell in straight sets, 3-0.

The Dinos went 3-2 over the weekend, defeating Vanguard Academy in the Championship game in straight sets, 3-0. In Tuesday’s meeting with the Patriots, each set was a battle, with the most significant margin of victory being just four points in one set.

The Dinos and Patriots came out to assert dominance in the opening set, but American Heritage took the 25-21 win as the dust settled.

Sets two and three were tight, with each team pushing the other back and forth. Carbon could not win either, as the Patriots won both sets by the same score, 27-25.

Grant Mathis collected eight assists, four digs, and a service ace for the Dinos. Charles Tima had five kills and four digs, and Kyler Orth collected five kills, five digs, three blocks, and a pair of service aces in the loss.

The Dinos’ loss puts them at 4-5 overall and 1-2 in region play. The initial RPI will be released on April 5.

March 20- @ Providence Hall

Last weekend, the Carbon Dino boys’ volleyball squad earned top honors in the Small School tournament. They followed that up with a loss to American Heritage on Tuesday. On Thursday, they traveled to face Providence Hall in Herriman. Carbon returned to their winning ways, taking the victory in straight sets 3-0.

Taking first place at the tournament was a massive boost to the two-year-old program, which is looking to continue growing season after season. There was a slight letdown on Tuesday with the loss to American Heritage,  but the Dinos were ready to go on Thursday.

Carbon came out, closing out the Patriots 25-8. The next set was a bit more competitive, but the Dinos overpowered Providence Hall to take the 25-14 win and go up 2-0. The third and what would be the final set was the closest, and it was a battle, but Carbon did just enough to edge out the Patriots 25-22.

Carter Warburton had seven kills and 10 digs for Carbon. Kyler Orth collected six kills, had four service aces, and three blocks. Grant Mathis had 12 assists in the win.

March 25- vs. Juan Diego

The Carbon boys’ volleyball team was on the road all last week, so they finally got to play in front of the home crowd when they faced the Juan Diego Soaring Eagle on Tuesday. Juan Diego took the first two sets, but Carbon turned it on, taking the final three sets to win 3-2.

Carbon’s last home game was on March 11, when they faced the North Sanpete Hawks in a 3-1 loss. Since then, they traveled to a tournament at American Heritage and then a match at Providence Hall last week.

The Soaring Eagle won 25-20 and 25-21 in the first two sets, and probably thought their road was pretty straightforward, but then the Dinos came alive.

In the third set, Carbon found its next level, and the Dinos rallied, holding the Soaring Eagle to 15 points, to take a 25-15 win. Moving into the fourth, it was all about the Dinos again, taking a 25-19 win to tie up the match at two sets each. In the fifth and final set, Juan Diego knew what they had to do, but Carbon did as well, holding them off and claiming the 18-16 set win to earn the 3-2 match victory.

Connor Gleave had a day for Carbon with 15 digs, 11 assists, six blocks, and one service ace. Kyler Orth earned 12 kills, for blocks and three aces, and Charles Tima had 15 digs, 12 kills, and two aces.

March 27- @ Juab

The Carbon Dino boys’ volleyball team won its third consecutive match and fifth in the last six, defeating the Juab Wasps on Thursday. Carbon controlled the hard-fought match, coming away with the straight set win.

Coming off a very successful outing at a tournament last weekend at American Heritage, where they claimed first place, going 3-2,  with a straight set win over Vanguard Academy in the Championship game, they followed that up with a loss on the road to American Heritage. Still, they then rattled off wins over Providence Hall and Juan Diego Catholic.

On Thursday in Nephi, the Dinos found themselves in a battle from the beginning, fighting with the Wasps, but they came up with the win in set one, 26-24. Both teams came out swinging again in the second set, but the Dinos again prevailed by the same score, 26-24. In the third and final set, Carbon overpowered the Wasps to get the 25-15 win, taking the straight set match win 3-0.

Charles Tima had 16 digs, 11 kills, and a pair of blocks. Evan Lancaster collected 14 digs, nine kills, four assists, and three blocks. Kyler Orth had 11 digs, seven kills, and three blocks, and Carter Warburton had 23 digs.

April 8- vs. Wasatch Academy

The Carbon boys’ volleyball squad has quietly put together a four-game win streak after Tuesday night’s win over Wastach Academy in front of the home crowd at Jurassic Park. The Dinos handed the Tigers a straight-set win to move to 8-5 overall this season.

Carbon has won six of its last seven contests, four of which were straight-set victories. On Saturday, the Utah High School Activities Association released its initial RPI, which had the Dinos at No. 6. They remain steady in the latest rankings.

On Tuesday night, Carbon came out firing in the first set and moved quickly to win 25-13. Wasatch Academy found a little more offense in the second set, but the Dinos were able to slow them down and get a 25-17 win. The third and final set was the closest of the match, as each team gave the other their best shot, but in the end, it was Carbon who came away with the 25-23 win to take the match 3-0.

Carter Warburton collected eight kills and three service aces for Carbon. Connor Gleeve had eight assists, Grant Mathis was huge getting seven service aces, and Kyler Orth had four kills in the win.

April 10- @ Juan Diego

Thursday night, the Dinos boys’ volleyball squad was on the road to take on the Juan Diego Screaming Eagle. Earlier in March, Carbon earned a win at Jurassic Park, and this time, the Dinos were searching for the season sweep. The Dinos shut down Juan Diego early and collected the straight-set win 3-0.

Carbon is 9-5 overall and 5-2 in 3A Region 2 play. They also own the No. 6 spot in the most recent RPI. Carbon has put together five wins in a row and has won seven of its last eight.

The Dinos came out prepared in the first set, taking a 25-11 win over the Screaming Eagle. In the second set, Carbon stayed on the offensive, earning a 25-17 win. Juan Diego put forth their best effort in the third set but still fell short, as Carbon closed them out in three sets, 25-18.

Charles Tima collected nine kills and nine digs to go with three service aces for Carbon. Carter Warburton had eight digs, five kills, and five service aces; Kyler Orth had five kills and three digs. Grant Mathis tallied 13 blocks, and Connor Gleeve had eight assists in the win.

April 11 & 12- North Sanpete Tournament

The Dino Boy’s volleyball team spent the weekend in Mount Pleasant participating in the North Sanpete Varsity Invitational. Carbon finished the weekend 3-2, claiming a fourth-place finish playing against some of the top teams in the 3A classification.

After the weekend, Carbon sits at 12-7 overall and 5-2 in region play. They also hold the No. 6 spot in the latest RPI rankings with five games left in the season before the playoffs begin on May 3.

The first contest of the weekend was against the Utah Military Academy—Camp Williams (UMACW) Marauders. Carbon won in straight sets.

The Marauders kept set one close, but the Dinos would claim a 25-16 win. Set two was less competitive, with Carbon taking a 25-9 win.

Carter Warburton logged nine service aces and four kills, and Connor Gleave had seven assists.

Game number two was against the Dugway Mustangs. Carbon once again took the match in two sets.

The first set was all Carbon, with the Dinos taking a 25-9 win. The second set was a little tighter, as the Mustangs were ready to play, but the Dinos still shut them down to take a 25- 17 win.

Charles Tima collected six digs and six kills to go with three service aces for Carbon. Warburton had five digs and kills to go with four service aces.

The final match on Friday was with North Sanpete. The Hawks hold the No.5 spot in the RPI, and the Dinos were looking to avenge an early-season loss. They did just that, taking a 2-1 win.

Carbon came out firing in the opening set, and so did the Hawks as both teams would battle, with the Dinos coming away with a 25-22 win. The roles and score were reversed in the second set, with North Sanpete earning the 25-22 win. The Dinos slowed down the Hawks in the third and final set to get the 15-9 win.

Warburton earned nine kills and nine digs for Carbon. Tima collected nine kills and seven digs. Grant Mathis and Gleave each had 13 assists, and Kyler Orth had seven kills in the win.

First up on Saturday morning, in the Championship Rounds, Carbon faced Salt Lake Academy, the No. 3 team in 3A. This was the season’s first meeting for the two schools, and after taking the first set, the Dinos would give up three straight as the Griffins won 3-1 in four sets.

Carbon won the first set battle 26-24, but then Salt Lake Academy took over, taking set two 25-18. The Griffins handed the Dinos another loss in set three, 25-17, and then closed them out in the fourth and final set, 25-12.

Warburton had 16 digs, seven kills, and three service aces for Carbon. Tima had nine digs and seven kills, Evan Lancaster earned seven kills and digs, and Mathis had 14 assists in the loss.

The fifth and final match was against the American Heritage Patriots. These two teams have squared up twice this season, with each team winning once, and they will hook up one more time before the end of the season. This match went five sets, but the Patriots earned a 3-2 win.

The Dinos jumped out, winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20, but it was all American Heritage after that. The Patriots earned a 25-19 win in the third set, and then they took the fourth set 25-17 to even up the match 2-2. American Heritage closed out the Dinos 15-8 in the fourth set to win the game.

Lancaster put together a great stat line with 11 digs, 10 kills, and five blocks for Carbon. Warburton had 10 kills and nine digs, Orth earned seven kills and four digs, and Mathis had 14 assists in the loss.

April 15 vs. Judge Memorial

The Carbon boys’ volleyball squad collected its 13th win this season on Tuesday night when they welcomed the Judge Memorial Bulldogs to Jurassic Park. The Match would go four sets, but the Dinos were able to gather the region win 3-1.

Carbon has almost doubled its win total from last year, when it went 8-18 overall. This season, it is 13-7 and 6-2 in league play. It has also cracked the top five in the latest RPI rankings. They have four matches left until the regular season ends on April 29. On April 30, the final rankings and the bracket for the State Championships will be released, and postseason play will start May 3.

Dinos found a win in the first set with a 25-17 score, but the Bulldogs returned in set two to even things up 25-18. Carbon’s defense took over in set three, gathering a 25-10 win. The fourth and final set was a battle, as it seemed that we might be heading for a fifth set. Carbon, however, was able to earn the win 25- 21.

Charles Tima gathered eight kills, five digs, and three service aces for Carbon. Kyler Orth had an impressive 20 kills and a pair of digs. Evan Lancaster had 11 kills along with his six digs, and Connor Gleave and Grant Mathis each had 17 assists in the win.

April 17- vs. Providence Hall

The boy’s volleyball team at Carbon is coming into its own in the second season. On Thursday evening, they welcomed in the region foe the Providence Hall Patriots. The Dinos didn’t disappoint the home crowd at Jurassic Park with a straight set win.

Carbon is 14-7 overall and 7-2 in 3A Region 2. However, they slipped back one spot in the RPI to No. 6, with three contests left before the end of the regular season.

The Dinos came out and made it through the first two sets relatively easily, taking both with the same 25-15 score. They let the Patriots hang around in the third set, but could still close them out 25-23.

Carter Warburton collected 10 kills in the contest to accompany his 10 digs for Carbon. Charles Tima had 11 digs, seven kills, and four service aces. Grant Mathis had 17 assists, and Connor Gleave had 10.

April 21- vs. American Heritage

Carbon Dino boys’ volleyball welcomed the American Heritage Patriots on Monday night. The season will close next week, and Carbon can always improve its standing in the RPI, but it fell just short to the Patriots, 3-1.

Carbon is sitting at 14-8 overall and holds the No. 6 spot in the latest RPI, but wins in their final two matches, vs. Juab No.4 and at North Sanpete No.5, could allow them to improve that mark.

Set number one was a good indicator of what would come the rest of the match, as both teams fought it out with the Patriots taking a 25-21 win. In set two, the Dinos came back to even up the match 25-23. Set three was a battle going down to the wire, but Carbon came up short, 26-24. In the fourth and what would be the final set, the Dinos just came apart and had trouble finding the offense to overcome American Heritage, falling 25-14.

Carter Warburton collected 14 kills and 12 digs for Carbon. Charles Tima had 15 digs, 13 kills, and earned three service aces, and Grant Mathis had 21 assists and 12 digs in the loss.

April 22- vs. Juab

The Dino boys’ volleyball squad celebrated their seniors on Tuesday evening when the Juab Wasps came to town. The Wasps spoiled the evening, taking a straight-set win over the Dinos.

Carbon said goodbye to six senior contributors from this year’s squad. After graduation, Connor Gleave, Raymond Johnson, Charles Tima, Evan Lancaster, Ky Earl, and Manuel Palacios will move on.  Carbon sits at 14-9 overall and 7-4 in region play. They sit in the No.6 spot in the most recent RPI, with one left to go.

Juab wasn’t messing around in the first set and took a 25-14 win. The second set was a little closer but the Wasps still hung on for the 25-20 win to go up 2-0. In the third and final set, Carbon couldn’t find the edge they needed and fell 25-19.

Carter Warburton had 12 digs, with eight kills and three service aces for Carbon. Conor Gleave had nine assists with eight digs and a pair of service aces, Grant Mathis had nine assists and six digs in the loss.

April 29- @ North Sanpete

Carbon closed the regular season with a 14-10 overall record with an 8-6 mark in region play. On Wednesday, the Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI and the bracket for the State Championships. The Dinos sit at No. 7 and will begin play on Saturday.

North Sanpete jumped out in this one, collecting a win in the first set, 25-18. They would also win in the second set, at 25-19. Carbon would come back in set three to claim the win 25-22, and then evened things up in the fourth with a contested 26-24 victory. In the fifth and final set, the Hawks returned and grabbed the 15-11 win, taking the match 3-2.

May 7- Wasatch Academy, Salt Lake Academy – Quarterfinals- State Championships

Carbon boys’ volleyball started postseason play on Wednesday at Utah Valley University. In the opening game, they faced Wasatch Academy, taking a 3-0 victory. Game number two was a tough draw for the Dinos as they faced the No. 2 ranked Salt Lake Academy, falling in straight sets to the Griffins 3-0.

The Dinos entered postseason play with the No. 7 spot in the final RPI; their first opponent, the Wasatch Academy Tigers, entered with the No. 10 spot. The two teams squared off once in the regular season, with Carbon winning.

Although Carbon won in straight sets in this match, each set was highly contested. In the first set, the Dinos came out on top 25-20. Sets two and three were both wins for Carbon by the same score, 25-19, giving them the win and advancing them into round two.

In the second match of the evening, Carbon faced Salt Lake Academy. The Griffins were ranked the No. 2 team in 3A with a 24-6 record. Back on April 12, in tournament play, the two teams faced each other, and the Griffins came away with a 3-1 victory.

This match was played much like the one with Wasatch; all three sets were highly competitive. Salt Lake took set one 25-20. The Dinos would fight back in the following two sets but came up short in both by the score of 25-22.

The loss drops Carbon to the semifinal loss round, where they will face American Heritage. In their four meetings this season, the Dinos have come away with one win, back in March, when Carbon claimed a 3-2 victory.

March 8- American Heritage- Quarterfinal Loss Round- State Championships

After going 1-1 on their first day of competition, the Dino boys’ volleyball squad was back at it at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Orem at Utah Valley University. This contest was what playoff sports are all about; both sets were close in the best-of-three consolation round, but the Patriots edged the Dinos to take the 2-0 win, ending the season.

Carbon’s season comes to a close with an overall mark of 15-12. They went 7-5 in region play, improving on their initial season in 2024, when they ended with an 8-18 and 4-2.

Going into the contest, the Patriots were going to be a tough out for the Dinos, who went 1-3 against American Heritage in the regular season.

The first set told the crowd on hand how the match would go. Neither team gave an inch, but American Heritage claimed the 25-23 win. In set two, Carbon knew that a loss would end their season, and they pushed the Patriots as best they could, but lost the set 26-24, ending their season.

Carter Warburton collected three kills, three digs, and a block for Carbon. Charles Tima had four kills, three digs, and a service ace, and Kyler Orth earned seven digs, four kills, and a block in the loss.

Carbon will lose six players to graduation, but this is a program with a bright future, and it will continue to build on where they are today.
