Carbon High School golfers Rydge Butler and Dayton King were recognized for their outstanding 2024 performance at the annual Utah High School All-State Banquet on Wednesday, May 28, at the Thanksgiving Point Show Barn in Lehi, UT.
The annual event, hosted by the Utah Section of the PGA of America, welcomes the top 10 golfers in each classification to a special awards banquet. Butler and King continued the long tradition of outstanding Carbon golfers being honored after receiving First Team All-State selections this past fall.
The Utah Section PGA extends the honor of First Team All-State to the top ten golfers in each classification, the next ten are selected to the second team, and the next ten after that are given honorable mentions.
Butler and King led four All-State selections for the Dinos, who put together a highly successful season as a team with a third-place finish overall at the 3A State Championship Tournament.
Butler delivered several key performances for the Dinos throughout his senior campaign, including a career best 68, 4-under par at Canyon Hills on Sept. 5. He also firmly placed himself in the top 10 at the 3A State Tournament in October, shooting a 72 on both days for a total score of 144, tying for seventh place overall.
Dayton King followed up his dynamic freshman season with a fifth-place performance at the 3A State Championship. Shooting a 66 on day one, King finished with a 73 on the final day, placing him fifth overall. His top regular-season performance was an even-72 at the Sunset View course on Sept. 12. His average adjusted score was the lowest on Carbon’s team, ending with a 75.51.
The Utah Section of the PGA of America has supported high school golf for over 25 years. Twenty years ago, they developed the Utah High School All-State Golf Program. The All-State Golf selection process is unique among all-state honors programs in that it is all by the numbers. Thirty-five percent of a player’s best region scores and sixty-five percent of their state championship scores are used to rank each player.
