Even though school is not in session, Carbon High students have found ways to shine academically in the summer. The Carbon High Quiz Bowl team traveled to Chicago to compete in the 2025 National Academic Championship on May 31 through June 1. The junior varsity squad finished fourth in their division and the varsity team secured a fourth-place finish across all divisions nationally.

The National Academic Championship is a yearly competition hosted by Questions Unlimited, bringing the best and brightest quiz bowl teams nationwide to compete.

To qualify for the tournament, teams must either win an academic competition (local or regional) of at least eight teams or finish in the top 15% of any varsity tournament. For JV teams, they must finish in the top 25%.

“The JV team, captained by Alex Tatton and including Oliver Steele, Kianna Ori, Jackson Sadler, Lynzi (Zayden) Llewelyn, Ashlyn Coho, and Anna Vincent, fought hard and secured 4th place in their division, narrowly missing a higher spot in some close matches,” reads a release from the Carbon School District. “The Varsity team, captained by Abby Flemett with members Collin Curtis, Blake Paul, Harlan Feik, and Nathan Weber, advanced to the division championship and took 2nd place. Their strong performance placed them 4th nationally across all divisions!”

Both teams competed under the direction of CHS math teacher Lane Tait.

“We’re incredibly proud of our Quiz Bowl teams’ hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship. Way to go, Carbon High,” closes the release.

Castle Country Radio would like to congratulate the quiz bowl teams on their success and wish them luck as they pursue academic excellence.
