A 34-year-old man was arrested in Green River on Friday, May 30, after the Emery County Sheriff’s Office received a call that the man was allegedly running through a neighborhood while wielding a machete.
Authorities arrested Louis Sayna, who is facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a third-degree felony, possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause statement, police responded after receiving a call that ” a male had ran to a house saying someone was chasing him.” After police made contact with Sayna, he claimed he had been riding a bus with a group of people who were ” trying to force him to do things and were chasing him.”
Explaining the machete, Sayna stated that he had dropped the weapon after fleeing from the bus and approaching a home where a group of children were playing outside. The machete was recovered by officers thereafter.
Performing a records check on Sayna; the deputies discovered an NCIC full extradition warrant out of Washington state. He was then taken into police custody, where officers found a glass pipe consistent with methamphetamine use. Also found was methamphetamine inside a paper contained in a bag worn across Sayna’s chest. When asked, Sayna stated that he had used the drug within the hour before the police arrived.
Sayna has been booked into the Emery County Jail.
