As the lights dim on another successful year of the Carbon County Fair, Kourtney Cox and Alex Peczuh from Carbon Events and Recreation joined the KOAL newsroom to recap the event and provide an update on what comes next for CERCUT.
“I can’t say anything that didn’t go well for the fair this year. Every single venue we had out there just knocked it out of the park. The animal barn with Kirk McArthur and his team worked really hard to put that together and we heard nothing but praise,” said Cox. “First responder Friday, was that a massive hit or what? The car show was beautiful. Those vehicles that people have are just incredible. The old-fashioned contests were so fun. The community really enjoyed getting involved in those.”
Continuing on the success, Cox discussed the return of the Black Diamond Rodeo,” I’m so glad we were able to bring that back this year and that it was so successful and well attended. We’ve also heard nothing but positive about that, not only from people who attended but people who were involved.” Cox continued,” Alex and I were talking earlier. We had been asked the question: What were some major things that went wrong behind the scenes? I don’t think we had a major thing that went wrong for any event, knock on wood, but it was great. It was wonderful. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.”
Moving from the past and into the future, Peczuh previewed upcoming youth sports camps that CERCUT will be hosting. “We’re gonna run a few different camps this summer, and they’re gonna go from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. for four to 12-year-olds. Our first one is the soccer camp starting June 23 through 25. After that, we’ll move into our flag football camp from June 30 to July 2. Something fun that we’re adding in this year is that we are gonna add in some inclusive camps to our volleyball and basketball camps, and they’re gonna happen from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 14 through 16 with our volleyball and then July 21 through 23 with our basketball camp.”
Registration for these camps and other activities is open on carbonrec.com
Even further down the road is the 2025 youth flag football season, which will run for eight weeks starting in August. “Those are gonna be on Monday and Wednesday evenings starting in August so we’re really excited to be able to bring that back. Registration is $60 It will include an NFL jersey and flags,” explained Cox.
None of these events would have been possible without the team at CERCUT, and Peczuh took the time to speak about the environment the office has for its employees. “We have an awesome team truly with a little loss of sanity sometimes but we have a really awesome team that it just truly makes it a joy no matter what we’re going through or how hard the task is that we’re working on if it’s something big like the fair.” Cox added,” we have an awesome team that works on all the pieces and is so supportive. If one of us is having a little bit of a tougher day and we don’t come in at 100%, the rest of us are there helping move things along.”
Closing our conversation, Cox said,” Thank you so much if you attended the fair or the Rodeo this weekend. Thank you for showing support and coming out and checking out these events we worked really hard on. I would also say there’s more to come. So keep an eye on our website, register for these camps that we’ve got coming up, check out our different venues, and call us if you have any questions.”
