On July 25, the corner of Main Street and Carbon Avenue will be taken over by the sound of basketballs dribbling and nothing but net as the Legends After Dark Three-on-Three Tournament sets up shop for a night of fun on the court.
The tournament will have something for everyone. With 10 different divisions ranging from third grade to 30 and older, everyone will have the opportunity to show off their skills. The third grade and under is co-ed, but starting with the 4th-6th grade divisions, there will be both boys’ and girls’ classes, and grade level divisions will be determined by the year they will be starting in the fall of 2025. The adult division will have both men’s and women’s as well.
Participation costs $25 per player, and registration is now open.
Carbon High boys basketball coach Taylor Brower joined KOAL’s Drive Time Sports to discuss the tournament and its origins.
“So South Sevier, down there in Monroe, has been running a thing called Midnight Madness for about 20 years, and it’s huge and the environment is amazing, if you want to experience a really good three-on-three, go down there. When I was down there, I was able to help with it and see how it ran, kind of the rules, and those kinds of things.”
Brower went on to talk about the location, “It will be from Carbon Avenue to First (West) down by Farlaino’s. They will run east/west, so we will have one court at the start by Carbon Avenue. We’ll paint one and then paint another one, and there will be baskets back-to-back. I don’t know how many courts we’re going to have as of right now, but I’m hoping five or six.”
Check-in starts at five, and things should get underway by 6:00 p.m..
