Mildred (Mickie) Hampton (Averill) passed away at Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation in Price, Utah on June 13, 2025 after suffering several years with multiple health problems.
She was born in Gunnison, CO on May 15, 1947 to Ace and Rachel Opal Flowers Averill. She finished high school in Green River. She met Gene Hampton at the military missile base in Green River, Utah where he was in the Army and she was a maid for military officers. He was the father of four sons. They married and moved back east where they divorced and she moved back to where her mom lived in Gunnison. Her father had already died at that point. She brought Ginny, a squirrel, with her on the plane; she told everyone it was a dog.
Mickie lived mostly in Green River, UT where she loved fishing the Green River and Lake Powell.
She is survived by her younger sister, Valda Mae Thomas of Green River, Utah; and older brother, Harry and wife, Janice, of Eckert, CO; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mickie is preceded in death by both parents; infant son, little Ace, he died at birth in July of 1983; two older brothers, Bobby Jean and Ted and their wives.
Her infectious laugh and her ‘interesting’ sense of humor will be missed by many. She will be laid to rest in the Gunnison, Colorado cemetery with her parents and infant son.
She loved the mountains, her animals, but most of all, fishing was her passion. She will be missed by all the feral cats that enjoyed her porch while they ate and visited with Mickie and the many Raccoons that came to say good morning and good night.
Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Mildred online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
