Another week means another rendition of the Price City Culture Connection concert series. On Thursday, June 26, Code Blue Revival, the 50s, 60s and 70s cover band, will rock the night away.
Culture Connection mastermind Ted Hinckley joined the KOAL Newsroom to preview what’s in store for this week’s concert and give a peek into the world of planning Culture Connection.
“I think a lot of people here are going to like Code Blue Revival,” said Hinckley. “They love that 50s through the 70s kind of music. Looking at the set list, they play ‘Wake Up Little Susie’ and ‘Johnny B. Goode, but also a lot of Simon and Garfunkel. It looks like they do an Elvis medley. Everyone loves Elvis, right?”
Diving deeper into the band, Hinckley shared,” They’ve been around for a long time. They’re led by John Diehl, who sings and plays guitar. They’ve got a couple of singers in the band as well … And these guys are seasoned stage Professionals. They play all the time, and they’re outstanding, and I’m excited to have them back over in Carbon County.”
With Culture Connection, the mission is something for everybody. To uphold this motto, Hinckley looks to schedule a wide variety of artists covering a wide range of genres. “Last week, Debra Fotheringham and Andrew Wiscombe played incredible songs they wrote themselves. They’re kind of a folkie thing. But these guys (Code Blue Revival), it’s a bigger band and a little more broad. But that’s my motto and what I try to do with Culture Connection. So if you don’t like it one week, come the next because I’m trying to cover all the bases for all of Price City.”
This search for talent starts around January, with the Culture Connection crew casting their nets into the vast pool of talent in Utah. “We have a few bands that we have a relationship with that travel. The Deltaz are coming later, so you figure out those traveling bands because their dates will be narrow so you try to lock them down.”
He continued,” And then it’s all about, ‘OK, who’s a band I’d really like to get?’ And you grab that band. You throw three dates out, and they pick one, and then there are two dates left. It’s like, ‘OK, these are back-to-back, and now I’m gonna make an offer to a band that I think is quite different from that one.’ And so you just fill the calendar that way.”
Closing our conversation, Hinckley stated,” Thank you to all those who come. We do quite a bit of work and we appreciate that they’re accepting it and letting it happen. But if they can tell their friends how much fun they’re having coming to Culture Connection, that’d be awesome.”
Price City Culture Connection featuring Code Blue Revival kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, in Washington Park in Price, Utah. More information on this and other events is available on pricecityutah.com or the city’s Facebook page.
