Each month, Castle Country Radio highlights an organization working to improve Castle Country. For July, the light shines on the Genesis Pregnancy Center, a faith-based nonprofit that supports clients during pregnancy and beyond.

Dorothy Wilson from the GPC joined the KOAL newsroom to speak on behalf of the organization and share what clients can expect when they step foot into the center.

“We are a nonprofit, faith-based 501 c) (3 organization. All our services are free. We are not funded by any state or federal government. We depend solely on donations from the community, companies, churches and individuals to continue serving our local community,” explained Wilson of the center.

She continued by providing the mission statement of the GPC,” Enabling women and men facing pregnancy decisions to choose life, parent well and heal from associated loss while demonstrating Jesus’s love.”

To aid in this mission, the Genesis Pregnancy Center offers a wide range of resources to support clients during pregnancy, as well as assistance after birth. “We provide free pregnancy tests and offer peer counseling in which women receive education on pregnancy and fetal development. We offer evidence-based information about parenting, adoption and abortion; as well as possible financial, physical and emotional consequences after each. We believe every woman should be able to make informed decisions without fear, pressure or distress to minimize possible regrets later.”

The center also hosts classes for parents to help develop key skills. “Parents in the community can access our parenting and life skill classes. These classes cover conception to toddlerhood and many life skills. We have a fatherhood series just for men to help their wives go through the pregnancy.”

By participating in these classes, parents can earn ‘Baby Bucks,’ which can be used in the GPC store. “Our store is well stocked with new and gently used baby and toddler items. We have a variety of things, including diapers, wipes, maternity clothes, baby clothes, changing tables, bouncers, strollers, car seats and more, all donated by this fabulous community.”

Closing out our conversation, Wilson shared the best ways to get in contact with the center: “If you’d like to learn more, you could go to gpcenter.org, find us on Facebook or call 637-5683.”

Castle Country Radio would like to thank the Genesis Pregnancy Center for all they do in improving the Castle Country.
