On Tuesday, July 1, the United States Senate passed the current reconciliation bill, colloquially referred to as the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ by a vote of 51-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tiebreaking vote.
On Thursday, July 3, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill by a 218-214 vote, officially sending it to the desk of President Donald Trump.
With its passage, many leaders from Utah’s federal delegation and statewide have released statements both praising and condemning the passage of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’. Below are statements from these representatives regarding the matter.

Sen. John Curtis
“The Big Beautiful Bill delivers for Utahns. It secures the border, provides permanent tax relief for working families, and strengthens our military. I’m grateful to Leader Thune and Finance Chair Crapo for including my changes to the energy credits – key for business certainty and for Utah’s energy future. I look forward to the House sending it to the President before the Fourth.”
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox
“Today’s passage of the budget bill is a win for Utah families: it delivers meaningful tax relief, invests in energy abundance, and, thanks to bipartisan teamwork, preserves every state’s freedom to craft common sense AI safeguards.
Thanks to our delegation for getting it across the finish line.”
Rep Celeste Maloy, Utah House District 2
“The bottom line on the One Big, Beautiful Bill is it puts hardworking American families and our most vulnerable first. It reflects what Americans voted for in November – a return to common sense and accountability. It protects every citizen from the largest tax increase in American history by providing tax relief for working families. It secures our border and strengthens our national security, restores American energy independence, and invests in rural communities. This bill also includes historic compensation for downwinders and uranium workers, expanding eligibility throughout Utah. While no bill is perfect, the One Big, Beautiful Bill reflects the promises made and kept by President Trump and House Republicans.’
Rep. Mike Kennedy, Utah House District 3
“We just took a huge step forward to defend our values, protect our future, and put the American people first.
Today I voted YES on H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
This critical legislation delivers the most significant tax cut in American history for middle and working-class families and small businesses. It also slashes waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending, preserves safety net programs for those truly in need, unleashes American energy, strengthens border security, and fortifies our national defense.
This is not just President Trump’s agenda. It is the agenda of the American people who want a stronger, freer, and more accountable nation for the next generation.
This bill is how we save our country and secure its future.”
Utah Democratic Party Chair Brian King
“Trump’s so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is a betrayal of working people. It guts health care, drives up costs, slashes food assistance, and adds trillions to the deficit – all for corporate handouts and to give billions to the ultra-wealthy. And Utah families will pay the price.
Utah’s entire Congressional delegation voted yes. Every single one of them chose political survival over public service, cowering to pressure from party leaders, special interests, and the president’s threats. So when health insurance disappears, energy bills spike, local hospitals close, kids lose their school aid, and our communities suffer, we’ll be there to remind Utahns exactly who’s responsible. You’ll see us at county fairs, grocery stores, churches, and gas stations – anywhere Utahns gather – because the truth deserves to be heard: this bill wasn’t written for you, and Utah’s leaders failed you. We’re fighting to fix it.”
