One of the highlights of the summer months in the Castle Country is the annual Price Greek Festival. This year, the annual celebration of Greek culture is celebrating its historic 50th anniversary.
To speak on all things Greek, Daryn Mason from the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church joined the KOAL newsroom to preview what attendees can expect from this year’s rendition of the festival.
The fun gets kicked off on Thursday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. with the Greek Festival 5K. Starting at the Assumption Greek Orthodox church, the run will take racers around Price and back to the church. “It’s always fun seeing the 5K,” said Mason of the race.
Registration is $20 per person and can be completed by visiting carbonrec.com or by calling 435-636-3702.
Moving to the heart of the event, starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 11, the festival will offer a range of activities for attendees to enjoy. “We have our pastry shop in the basement. We have our marketplace upstairs in the Sunday School building. Outside, we have our Greek coffee shop. We’ll have the Greek dancers down from Salt Lake on Friday and Saturday. And they’ll be dancing both days, all day,” explained Mason.
He added,” We also have our drawing for prizes that will be held on Saturday, July 12.”
One of the standouts of the Greek Festival is always the food. This year, business-to-go orders (five or more people) are available by calling 435-637-0704. “You can get a gyro, chicken or souvlaki platter for $25. That includes the rice pilaf, which is a Greek rice dish. It includes green beans, tiropra and two domades. They can also add a single gyro for $9 and a bowl of loukoumades for $5. Or they can add on a Greek salad for $5.”
Business to go orders must be placed by Thursday, July 10 at 6 p.m.
Sharing his favorite Greek treat, Mason stated,” My favorite food at the Greek festival is the loukoumades.”
The 50th annual Price Greek Festival will be held on Friday, July 11, and Saturday, July 12, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. All events will be held at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church located at 61 South, 200 East in Price.
