As this year’s rendition of Price City’s Culture Connection hits its midway point, the concert series welcomes one of the summer’s most anticipated groups – Fleetwood Visions: A Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band.
Price City Council Member Layne Miller joined the KOAL newsroom to preview the affair and reflect on the Culture Connection season thus far.
Miller, who recently purchased a new Fleetwood Mac T-shirt for the concert, spoke highly of Fleetwood Visions,” When we look at the season, I think July is the high point. Midway through July is where we intentionally put this, as a kickstarter for the rest of the year. I was listening to Fleetwood Mac the other day, and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s my favorite. No, that one’s my favorite. No, this one has to be my favorite.’ They’re all so good. And I think the reason we enjoy music is when we listen to music from the past, it brings back memories.”
In a previous conversation, Culture Connection mastermind Ted Hinckley also sang the praises of the group,” These guys are as good as they come. They’re from the Wasatch Front, and they play this Fleetwood Mac book all over. And it’s a hard book to play. Lindsey Buckingham, the guitarist of Fleetwood Mac, is a unique player. So it takes a very talented guitar player to do that. Of course, Stevie Nicks has a unique voice.” He continued,” One of the great things about Fleetwood Mac was they had three songwriters and three singers, but they all took their turn to accompany each other. And so it makes Fleetwood Mac a special band. It’s a great songbook, and Fleetwood Visions is a great act.”
Looking back on the start of the season, Miller spoke on one of the biggest points of praise the concert series receives – its move to Washington Park. “The bands always compliment us. ‘What a great venue,’ is what I hear every week when we do it. The bands love it, the attendees love it. Bring your chairs, find your best shade, get some cold Coke to drink, some popcorn, and enjoy yourself.”
Miller also discussed what he enjoyed most about the first half of the Culture Connection action. “I think the most impressive thing is that we’ve had some brand-new bands who have, even though I didn’t know their names, have been really good. I’m thinking back to the first week with the Bombshell Flowers. They were young musicians, but man, they got the crowd stirred up. I’ve had nothing but compliments since then about them.
Looking ahead to the second half of the summer, Miller spoke excitedly about what’s in store for Culture Connection. “We have a couple of known groups who have played before. Los Hermanos de los Andes is coming up for International Days. The Deltaz are coming at the end of the month on July 31. And then our August group is Davey and the Midnights. Now, if you know Davey and the Midnights, they’re old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll. They’re going to be a hit, I guarantee you.”
Closing our conversation, Miller stated,” We’re halfway through, but that means we have another half left. So please don’t give up on us. Come visit and enjoy us, as well as your surroundings. There’s a playground for the kids. The wave pool is open if the kids want to go in. It can be just the highlight of your summer.”
Fleetwood Visions: A Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band, takes the stage at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at 7 p.m. in Washington Park. More information on this and other events is available on pricecityutah.com or the city’s Facebook page.
