As interim meetings of the Utah State Legislature continue to shape what the 2026 general session may look like, members of both parties continue to fill key leadership positions within committees to control what legislation will see the floor, and what bills won’t see the light of day.

For the Castle Country, Rep. Logan Monson has been appointed to a leadership position on the Health and Human Services Committee, where he will serve as Vice Chair.

Holding a background in health care, where he works as a registered nurse and nurse administrator, Monson’s experience in the field has influenced some of his legislation. In 2024, he ran HB482, which repealed reporting requirements related to the Department of Health and Human Services in what Monson referred to as a “cleanup bill”. The bill was signed by Gov. Spencer Cox in March.

“I’m honored to serve as the vice chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. This role is an opportunity to advocate for rural communities, strengthen our health care systems, and support policies that improve access and outcomes for Utah families,” said Monson in a statement to Castle Country Radio. “I’m especially focused on ensuring that mental health services, elder care, and front line providers – particularly in underserved areas – receive the attention and support they deserve. I look forward to working with my colleagues to make real, lasting impacts in the lives of Utahns.”

In his freshman session, Monson made waves across the legislature. He was celebrated for his work by Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, who awarded him ‘Legislator of the Day’ honors. “It’s Rep. Logan Monson’s first year in the legislature, but he is no stranger to representing rural communities, having previously served as a city council member and mayor of Blanding,” wrote Henderson.

Monson’s appointment comes during a time when major leadership shake-ups are underway across the legislature. In June, the House Republicans selected Rep. Casey Snider as House majority leader, Rep Candice Pierucci as House majority whip and Rep. Bridger Bolinder as majority assistant whip.

“This is meaningful work,” said Monson, “and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to it.”
