late-for-what

Following one of the largest Culture Connection events in the concert series’ history is no small feat, but it is one that alternative pop group Late For What is up for. Price City Council Member Layne Miller joined the KOAL newsroom to discuss last week’s success and preview what music lovers can expect on Thursday, July 17.

Miller opened our conversation by sharing some of the miracles it took to bring Fleetwood Visions on stage during Price’s citywide power outage last week. “There was panic. I didn’t know what we were going to do, I couldn’t find any generators from the city,” said Miller. “Luckily, Kenny Driggs was there from Helper, and he said, ‘Hey, I’ve got one I can get you.’ So he ran to Helper and got us a generator, and that’s what put us on. So thank you, Kenny.”

Looking at this week’s rendition of Culture Connection, Miller provided a preview of what to expect from Late for What: “I’ve listened to some of their songs. It’s another young group, but they sound really good. ”

He continued, speaking to the dedicated crowd of Culture Connection fans who show up each week. “If you look at the folks who come to Culture Connection, we have a core group of probably 150 or 200 people who show up every week, no matter what group it is. They’re supportive. They love what we’re doing. They love music. And I’m seeing the same folks at Helper Vibes for the music.”

One of the goals of Culture Connection is to boost Price and Carbon County to the music epicenter of eastern Utah. “I’d like to say we want to be the music center of eastern Utah, but why limit it to eastern Utah? We could be the music center of southern Utah, the music center of Utah or of the West?”

To illustrate this, Miller gave a sneak peek of a group coming to Price City’s International Day celebration that is already drawing a lot of outside attention: “We have an ABBA tribute band coming for International Days. I have family coming from Salt Lake, and my wife also has family coming from Salt Lake to see the performance.”

Closing our conversation, Miller said,” Keep supporting us. We love having people come. We love doing this. Culture Connection has become a real fabric of what Price City is, and it’s a good thing.”

Price City welcomes Late for What to the Culture Connection stage on Thursday, July 17, starting at 7 p.m. in Washington Park. More information on this and other events is available on pricecityutah.com or the city’s Facebook page.
