Carbon County’s Battle Baseball kept its Pacific Southwest Regional championship hopes alive with a convincing 11-1 win over Southern California Wednesday afternoon in Price.

Faced with elimination following Tuesday’s thrilling loss to Hawaii, Battle responded with a dominating performance, ending Southern California’s tournament hopes in six innings.

Rigdon Rhoten recorded the win on the mound, tossing three innings of three-hit, scoreless ball. Alex Martinez pitched two innings of relief work, allowing one hit, one earned run, and one strikeout. Callen Donaldson logged the final three outs, giving up just one hit.

Run support was not an issue for Battle, complementing the strong pitching performance with 10 hits. Nate Tatton, Jaxton Smith, and Jacen Urbanik each had a multi-hit game.

Rhoten helped his cause at the plate, finishing 1-3 with three RBI, two runs, and a walk. Smith continued to produce with runners in scoring position, ending 2-4 with two RBI and a run of his own. Tatton and Madrid both logged one RBI each.

Battle has now accumulated a 2-1 record three days into the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament, outscoring its opponents 23-5.

The team will now return to the Carbon High School fields on Thursday for another elimination game, this time against Hawaii Kai LA. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 11:30 am.
