The Lady Dino soccer squad got back to work on Tuesday as they welcomed the Uintah Utes to Carbon High. Both teams were coming off a 12-6 finish last season and looking to build on their successes of last year. After playing to a 2-2 tie, they moved to a shootout where the Utes claimed the 3-2 win.
Carbon’s season ended last year with a loss in the quarterfinals to eventual State Champion Morgan. But last season also had its highlights as freshman Malia Smith was one of the top goal scorers in the state with 32.
The Lady Dinos were able to find the back of the net in the first half, and more importantly, kept the Utes off the scoreboard. Carbon added another in the second, but Uintah was able to put two goals up to tie things at 2-2 at the end of regulation. Moving into a shootout, Uintah took the slight edge, scoring three goals to Carbon’s two, taking the win.
Smith came up big with a pair of goals for the Lady Dinos in this one, scoring in both halves. Junior Blythe Bradford and incoming freshman Naomi Smith each had assists in the loss. Carbon was able to collect 12 shots on goal against the Utes, and in goal, Madi Barlow claimed 19 saves.
The Lady Dinos will be back on the field Thursday on the road in Ogden to face the St. Joseph Jayhawks.
On August 12, Carbon will welcome Maeser Preparatory Academy to Price with a 4:00 game time.
