Noemi Taberna, 63, passed away on August 8, 2025 surrounded by family at her home in Price, Utah.
Noemi was born in El Salto, Durango, Mexico on May 4, 1962 to Orelio Diaz and Virginia Nunez. Noemi spent her early childhood in Durango with her younger brother and grandparents, where she formed cherished memories of gathering water from the well, playing in cornfields, and caring for the animals. Her stories of Durango were filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She loved her grandma deeply.
At age eight, Noemi began a journey that took her from Durango to Juarez where they lived for three years then moved from Juarez to El Paso, El Paso to Kansas, Kansas to Wyoming, Wyoming to Colorado and eventually Utah.
Noemi married the love of her life, Miguel Taberna, on June 23,1987 in Craig, Colorado. Noemi was a proud mother to three children: Cynthia, her cherished “Pumpkin” born towards the end of October; Pascual, her beloved “sweetheart” born on Valentine’s Day; and MJ, her spirited “firecracker” born just before the Fourth of July. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy: Anthony, Aniya, Aliyana, Cain, and Alaina. She adored them deeply and found immense happiness in their presence. They were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Noemi’s life was defined by resilience, generosity, and incredible love. With her devoted husband of 39 years, Miguel, Noemi built a family deeply rooted in tradition, love, and resilience. Together, they opened and ran El Salto Mexican Restaurant in Price, Utah, for over three decades. The restaurant became a cornerstone of the town, and Noemi its heart.
Noemi was the strongest person we knew, the hardest worker, and the kindest soul to ever grace our lives. Her love was fierce, her hands never idle, and her heart always open. Whether she was cooking a meal that brought comfort to many, working tirelessly to support her family, or simply offering a warm smile, Noemi lived every day with purpose, grace, and generosity.
Noemi faced multiple battles with cancer- including melanoma, breast cancer and brain cancer- with remarkable courage and grace. Even in pain, she rarely complained and always worried about everyone else, especially her husband, whose love she cherished deeply. Their bond was a testament to enduring partnership and devotion.
Survived by her loving husband, Miguel Taberna; siblings, Adrian (Tamara) Najera, Jose (Jodi) Najera, Elsie Najera and Pascual Sr. (Aurkene) Taberna; three children, Cynthia (George) Hargrove, Pascual (Deshell) Taberna and MJ Taberna.
