The Green River Pirate baseball squad was looking for its first victory of the season on Tuesday as they traveled to face the Alamont Longhorns. The Pirates fell to them to open the season and were looking to even the score on the road, but the Longhorns closed out Green River 11-2.

The Pirates just faced Altamont last Tuesday to start the season, falling to the Longhorns 8-2. The venue changed, but the outcome was the same, as the Pirates struggled offensively and surrendered six errors.

Green River plated their only runs in the contest at the top of the second, with Altamont up 3-0 when David Mendez scored on an error by Altamont’s catcher, and then in the same at bat, Mauricio Villalba Hernandez sent a sacrifice fly to center as Gabriel Quintana would score to cut into the Longhorn lead at 3-2.

Altamont kept the scoring balanced throughout the game, scoring two runs in each of the remaining innings to build the final score to 11-2, as the Longhorns handed the Pirates their third loss to start the season 0-3.

Jason Hernandez collected the only hit for the Pirates, going 1-3. Mendez and Quintana each scored one run in the loss.

Hernandez got the start on the bump, going 2.2 innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits, and striking out one. Mendez went two innings with four runs, two earned on two hits, and struck out a pair. Rolando Anguiano went 1.1 innings with two earned runs on four hits and struck out two. Cristian Mendoza also got in some time on the mound.

The Pirates travel to Panguitch (3-1) on Wednesday, looking for their first win of the season.
