Carbon’s Battle Baseball earned another win in the Babe Ruth World Series, taking place in Jamestown, New York. Coming off a win on Sunday, they dug in on Monday morning and collected a 7-1 win against Centennial, Colorado.
Battle used a big sixth inning against Wisconsin to come away from Sunday’s contest with a 12-9 win that propelled them to the game with Colorado.
Taking a two-run lead after the first inning, Battle surrendered just one run as Nate Tatton got the start on the mound and had the confidence that his teammates behind him had his back, as defensively they gave up just one hit in the contest as well.
Offensively, Carbon was able to collect nine hits. Jace Bosone was 1-2 at the plate, collecting a pair of runs and RBIs. Jaxton Smith was 1-2 with a pair of runs, and Jacen Cowley went 2-4 in the win for Battle.
Coach Darek Martinez was a guest on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports after the win, and feels like the team is in a good spot after the first two wins.
“If these guys will just play the way they can play, I don’t think there’s anybody that can beat them. And they prove that time in and time out, every weekend they get after it and just love doing it with each other.”
Battle will now face the team from Eagle Pass, Texas, who is also undefeated. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. MST on Tuesday.
