At approximately 7:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, a car sideswiping a semitruck led to a vehicle ejection and the death of a 43-year-old woman.
According to a release from the Utah Department of Public Safety,” a white Toyota Sequoia was traveling east on SR-6 near milepost 231, just north of Helper, when it crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 2020 Freightliner semi, which was traveling westbound.”
After making contact, the Sequoia was forced off the road, driving through a guardrail and off an embankment. This resulted in the car being overturned with the driver pinned underneath. During the crash, the driver’s door was ripped open, causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle.
The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semitruck came to a rest on the eastbound shoulder, facing west.
According to the DPS,” It was raining at the time, roads were wet, but there is no indication that the Toyota lost control.”
The crash is currently under investigation. No further information has been released at this time.
