
The Green River Pirates had captured their first win of the season over Wayne last Friday, and on Wednesday, they were in Junction to face the Piute Thunderbirds. The Pirates collected a pair of hits, falling to the Thunderbirds 10-0 in five innings.
Green River earned the first win of the season against the Wayne Badgers 3-2 in a come-from-behind win, with Green River scoring all of their runs in the seventh inning. Moving their overall record to 1-5, they faced Piute, who is one of the top programs in 1A.
The Thunderbirds got on the board in the bottom of the first, but used a seven-run fifth inning to close the door on Green River, with Blake Dalton getting the complete game win, surrendering just two hits and striking out six for Piute.
For Green River, Rolando Anguiano and Jesus Escalante each went 1-2 in the contest.
On the mound, Anguiano went four innings, giving up six runs, three earned, on four hits, striking out one. Jason Hernandez put some time in as well, giving up two hits with four runs, two earned, in the loss.
On Friday, the Pirates will be back on the field to take on Bryce Valley on the road in Tropic.
