Thursday, the Lady Dino soccer team welcomed the Canyon View Falcons to the pitch in Price. Both Carbon and Canyon View are very familiar with each other, having shared the same region for the past few years, which worked to Carbon’s advantage as the Dinos claimed a 4-1 victory.
The Dinos and the Falcons were both members of Region 12 up until this school year, when Carbon was moved to Region 13. Carbon has started out the season at 7-2 overall and will wait for the initial RPI to come out this Sunday.
Carbon kept the scoring balanced as they came out in the first half to put a pair of goals in the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, Carbon kept the pace, putting two more on the board while their defense broke for a split second, and Canyon View scored its lone goal, but the Lady Dinos held on for the 4-1 win.
Malia Smith scored two goals, bringing her season total to 23, which leads the state across all classifications. Naomi Smith scored two goals and earned an assist. Andrea Swasey, Bailey Johnson, and Saren Nelson each collected one assist in the Carbon win.
In goal, Madi Barlow had nine saves for the Lady Dinos.
Carbon heads back to the pitch on Friday when they will travel to Nephi to face the Juab Wasps.
