The Utah State Eastern Eagles hosted the Central Wyoming College Rustlers in a late-minute thriller. The contest was the last non-conference match-up of the young season.
The defenses for USU Eastern and Central Wyoming dominated the first 40 minutes of the match, halting any offensive threat by either side.
The Rustlers broke the scoreless tie in the 42nd minute with a goal that carried a 1-0 score into halftime.
Eastern’s offensive attack seemed to find new life in the second half, making an aggressive push that eventually led to a Katelyn Kitchen goal in the 64th minute, evening the match at 1-1.
With the clock ticking and a draw on the horizon, Paisley Ashworth broke the tie with a goal on an 89th-minute corner kick. The goal beat the final buzzer, giving the Eagles a 2-1 win.
Next up, the Eagles will travel to Snow College on Saturday, Sep. 6, to open Scenic West conference play.
