Update 09-01-25 8:05 p.m.

Westbound US-6 has now opened to traffic per the Utah Department of Transportation. Eastbound remains closed to traffic. Authorities ask that drivers do not stop or park on the interstate in the closure area.

Original story

As travelers were returning from an extended Labor Day Weekend, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a fire broke loose along US-6, closing the highway for several miles.

Located a few miles east of the US-6/89 junction, the fire started on private land and is estimated to be 20 acres in size.

The blaze has closed all directions of traffic along US-6 from milepost 187 to 191. Emergency officials are urging travelers to seek alternative routes. Heavy delays are expected as first responders combat the fire.

The fire has prompted a response from local and state authorities, with multiple ground and air resources responding to the fire.

At the time of writing, no estimate has been provided for the reopening of the road. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
