Eric Griego was born to Georgia Griego on December 20, 1986, in Price, Utah. He passed in his home in Brooklyn, New York on August 22, 2025. He lived with his wife, April; their dog, Sunny; and until recently, Sunny’s older brother, Bert.

Eric will be remembered for the charismatic warmth he naturally radiated. He was the life of the party, the DJ of the party, and the person who made sure you felt like you were supposed to be there. A stranger to Eric could transform into a close friend within days, due to his gravitational pull.

He was a beloved son to Armida, a loving father to Maddox, a doting husband to April, and an irreplaceable friend to countless others. He lived in Utah, California, and New York, making lifelong connections in every place where he spent time.

Raised by Armida Griego in Price, Eric showed an early interest and aptitude for music, business, and math. He had a profound love for Armida, and cared for her even once he moved away to New York.

Eric’s eccentric sense of humor and his passion for hip-hop lives on in his son, Maddox, a young man who has already performed several live DJ sets. Eric loved Maddox and cherished any time they spent together—playing music, skateboarding, or just watching incomprehensible internet videos.

He was an avid Dungeons & Dragons adventurer, and started a guitar instruction school with his best friend, Jake. This would be the first, but not the last successful business he started with a friend.

As a graduate of University of Utah, with a degree in mathematics and statistics, Eric is listed in the “Notable Alumni” section of the college’s Wikipedia page.

Eric had a wide-reaching successful career in the financial industry in New York City. Even in America’s biggest city, Eric made it feel like his neighborhood—with friends and restaurant recommendations across the boroughs; especially Brooklyn. He continued to build friendships in the city as he progressed professionally. He loved New York and New York loved him back. It was in this city where he would meet April, the woman he’d marry in 2019.

His finance background, coupled with his ambition, led him to co-found his own finance startup, which was later acquired by a larger bank. Despite his brilliance and great success in business, Eric was humble in touting his own achievements. What gave him more satisfaction was what he did for others.

Eric parlayed his success into another venture, which he started with his close friend and fellow DJ, Austin. Along with the investment of friends and the design expertise of April, they opened Please Tell Me, a bar, restaurant, and unofficial meetup location for many of their friends.

Even before opening Please Tell Me, Eric was DJing around the city under the name Georgia’s Boy, an homage to his late mother. At the beginning of the pandemic, Eric performed daily live-streamed DJ sets, providing entertainment to close friends, family, and strangers while he could not see them in-person.

Please Tell Me was the culmination of Eric’s business savvy, his love for hip-hop, and making sure everyone around him was having a good time. His good friends became regulars of the bar and regulars of the bar became his good friends. The people who worked there became his family. His magnetism and passion for music drew an ever-growing crowd of artists, musicians, and producers who came to know Eric as one of the guys.

Eric was an unending well of generosity who would do whatever was within his power—whether it was resources, expertise, or time—to make sure his friends and family were heard, and had whatever they needed to chase their own ambitions and dreams. He encouraged all of those around him to do more for themselves and to help others when they could. And he made sure they had a good time doing it.

Eric—with his brilliance, humor, and warmth—will be profoundly missed.

Eric is survived by his grandmother, Armida Griego; his wife, April Paterson; his son, Maddox Griego; and Maddox’s mother, Katy.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Georgia; and his grandfather, George.
