The Green River Lady Pirates volleyball squad has been pretty quiet to start the season, as they were 1-1 heading into their match-up with Altamont. While the contest with Altamont on Friday was competitive, the Longhorns handed the Pirates a 3-1 loss in just their third match this season.

The season for Green River began back on August 6, with a loss to Tintic. The only win for the Pirates came on August 14, in a match at Bryce Valley 3-0.

The Lady Pirates came out in the opening set to take a 25-22 win to go up 1-0. After that, it was all Altamont.

After the Green River win in set one, every set was close. In set number two, Green River kept the pace, but Altamont claimed the 25-17 win. Set number three was another fight, but the Pirates came up just short as they were handed a 25-20 loss. In the fourth and final set, both teams were searching for a win. Altamont was looking to close things out, but the Pirates were trying to tie things up, and it was the Longhorns who claimed the 25-21 win in the set and the match by the score of 3-1.

Elizabeth Argomaniz had five kills in the match to go along with two service aces. Elena Escalante had 10 digs in the game, along with two service aces, and Rosa Barragan had 24 digs for the Pirates in the loss.

The Pirates get right back to the court on Tuesday when they welcome the De Beque Dragons out of Colorado.

Gametime is set for 6:30 p.m..
