Over the weekend, USU Eastern’s mountain bike team participated in its first collegiate race at Powderhorn Resort in Colorado. Riders were divided into three categories, A, B, and C, with team members represented in each. The event featured various race disciplines, including Cross Country (XC), Short Track XC, Downhill, and Dual Slalom. For this competition, the team competed in the XC and Short Track XC events.
Some of the top collegiate riders in the nation were in attendance. In Category A, Tyler Smith, Boyd Bradford, and Craig Olson represented the men’s team, while Sadie Holm and Megan Anderson raced for the women’s team. All competed strongly, finishing mid-pack in fields that included up to 60 riders.
Category B riders Greyson Halverson, Bridger Whitaker, and Zoe Adams also delivered solid performances, highlighted by 7th and 9th place finishes in the XC race.
In Category C, James Lewis, Josh Dalley, Trace Dennison, and Alcy Knapp showed strong form. Notably, James Lewis earned a podium finish with 2nd place in the Short Track event, his first time competing in that discipline.
Overall, it was a successful and exciting weekend of racing. The team now looks ahead to its next competition at Crested Butte next week.
