On Thursday, Sept. 4, at approximately 6 p.m., Price City Dispatch received a call from a residence in North Price, near Pinnacle Canyon Academy, where the caller claimed to have a bomb.
Acting quickly, first responders from the Price City Police Department, alongside Utah Highway Patrol, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and Wellington City Police Department, responded to the scene. At the time of the incident, activities were running at Pinnacle, prompting the school to go into lockdown.
“Responding officers were able to determine the incident was a hoax and there was no continued threat to the area,” reads a release from the department. “The Price City Police Department is currently investigating the incident and is aware of similar hoax and swatting-style incidents occurring recently around the nation.”
PCPD closes the release by offering an apology to the victim of the call: ” We want to offer a sincere apology to the unsuspecting family who had this hoax call perpetrated against them, and want to reassure the community that there is no existing threat to the community.”
This call comes at a time when across the nation, law enforcement has seen an uptick in hoax calls – including false reports of shootings at college campuses. In August, law enforcement responded to calls of suspected active shooters at Arkansas, Northern Arizona University, Iowa State, Kansas State and many more.
