Playing their first home game of the year, the Emery Spartans put on a dominating performance against the Judge Memorial Bulldogs, earning their first win of the season in blowout fashion, 41-6.

Emery opened the contest with a bang, scoring 21 unanswered points on their first three offensive possessions. Igniting this scoring explosion was quarterback Trygg Jensen, who connected with Logan Lester on a nine-yard shot to the end zone.

Jensen struck again just four minutes later, finding Krae Leroy in open space to tack on another Spartan score.

Emery utilized a two-quarterback system, putting in dual-threat option Ajay Thomas, who showcased his arm on an 11-yard dime to senior receiver Beau Stilson. A perfect first half from kicker Jadin Atwood built Emery a daunting 21-0 lead.

“It’s nice to have two kids that have experience to be able to do that,” said Emery head Coach Jon Fiamalo of the pair of quarterbacks. “We’re changing some things, but there are some kids that I need on the field wherever they’re at.”

Judge would put up their only points of the ballgame in the second quarter, creating a slimmer 21-6 Emery advantage heading into the locker room.

A scoreless third quarter set the stage for a second offensive boom for the Spartans, scoring three touchdowns in the final frame. The first came via Jensen, who opted to get the job done with his legs as he scampered for a five-yard score. Jensen continued his dominant performance, delivering a dot to Stilson, who navigated the field for a 53-yard touchdown.

Emery would cap off this dominant performance with Jensen rushing for his second touchdown of the day – coming in near identical fashion to his first as he sprinted five yards to the promised land for another set of six. A converted point after elevated Emery to a 41-6 victory over the Bulldogs.

Jensen impressed in his varsity quarterback debut, throwing for 208 yards and three touchdowns while adding 114 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Stilson closed with 112 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Traxton Conover would lead the running back room with 68 rushing yards.

Emery (1-2) now makes the trip to Roosevelt to face the Union Cougars (2-2) on Friday, Sept. 12. Union is fresh off a loss to Uintah 15-14.
