It was business as usual as the Price City Council was called into session on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Headlining the agenda was a switch in contractors for the city’s Wood Hill Drive project from B. Hansen Construction to Perco Rock.

Opening the meeting was a safety second presentation by council member Amy-Knott Jesperson, who encouraged residents to ensure their vehicles are in working order, especially due to recent monsoonal weather conditions in the area.

Moving forward, Carbon County Emergency Manager Justin Needles addressed the council, seeking a letter of support from the city for the county’s ambulance services. Offering a 24/7, 365 service to Carbon County with 30 employees, Price City saw the highest percentage of ambulance runs throughout the county, with 1066.

“The average time from when we get a 911 call to on scene is seven minutes, 28 seconds. For Price City, that number is just below five minutes,” explained Needles. “So we’re just seeking your support in our RFP to continue as your ambulance service.”

The council voted to approve the support letter unanimously.

Next on the agenda was an agreement for engineering services with Johansen & Tuttle Engineering for a spring water transmission line replacement. Public Works Director Miles Nelson stated the project was “critical to the city’s infrastructure.”

With no controversy, the agreement was approved.

The next two items on the agenda are intertwined, with the cancellation of a contract for the Wood Hill Drive project with B. Hansen Construction, and switching the contractors to Perco Rock.

“The project has been underway for a few weeks now, but the contractor has been running into trouble with the right equipment and right processes,” said Nelson. “So we are mutually agreeing to terminate the contract.”

Nelson also noted that there would be no penalties for the cancellation, as the previous contractors had not been paid.

Perco Rock – who came in second in the original bidding process – now takes over the contract for an amount of $44,469. “The biggest miracle is that we have someone available on the spot to step in,” added Nelson. “Getting a contractor on that kind of notice is incredible.”

Both the termination of the old contract and the ratification of the new agreement were approved by the council.

Following this, the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting of the Price City Council is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. at Price City Hall. For those unable to attend in person, a video stream of the meeting will be available on YouTube at KOAL-Castle Country Focus.
