The Bureau of Land Management announced Wednesday that 120 acres of federal land near Skyline Mine would be made available through a competitive lease by sealed bid. This announcement comes after the Department of the Interior performed the first expedited coal lease action under the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’.

“This project strengthens national energy security and will provide a boost to the local economy,” said Christina Price, BLM Utah’s deputy state director for lands and minerals. “We are proud to be a part of the effort to provide Americans with an affordable supply of domestic energy.”

Within this stretch of land, an estimated 1.79 million tons of recoverable federal coal is up for grabs.

“Sealed bids must be sent by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the collections officer, BLM Utah State Office, or be hand-delivered to the BLM public room contact representatives at the Utah State Office, 440 West 200 South, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101,” reads a release from the BLM. “Hand-delivered bids will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily and all bids, whether mailed or delivered, must be received on or before 11 a.m. MT on Oct. 1, 2025.”

Bids received after the deadline will not be considered.

The BLM shared that this action aligns with Trump’s executive order “Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry,” which was signed on April 8.

Additional information on the sale is available online on the BLM National NEPA Registry.
