On Monday, the Carbon tennis team traveled to Moab for a meeting with the Grand County Red Devils. With the season winding down, Carbon was looking to fine-tune their positions for State, and fine-tune they did, taking a straight 5-0 sweep against the Red Devils.
The Lady Dinos didn’t have one match go the distance, as all were won in straight sets, starting with Lisa King’s 6-1, 6-0 first singles win over Paya Maughan. In second singles, Jessi King won in straight sets over Sophia Scott, 6-2 and 6-0, and in third singles, Leah Sweeney claimed the 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kimber McCandless.
In first doubles, Ireland Keil and Emily Dufour had the match of the day as they battled in their first set against Quinn Potts and Mackenzie Butler, eventually coming away with the 7-6 (7-5) win. The Carbon duo went on to take the second set 6-1. Gianna Valdez and Emme Stockdale breezed through their second doubles match with Adayle Ross and Tensi Maughan, 6-2 and 6-2.
Carbon will be on the courts again this Friday and Saturday when they take part in the 2A-3A Invitational in Mount Pleasant.
