
Last Friday and Saturday, the Carbon Lady Dinos volleyball squad made the trip to Stansbury for the Stallion Stampede. Carbon faced opponents from the 4A and 5A ranks over the two days, returning home with a 1-4 mark.
Carbon sits at 4-12 overall and is still searching for its first Region 13 win at 0-2. In the latest rankings, the Lady Dinos sit at No. 14.
In the opening match, the Lady Dinos faced the No. 9 team out of 5A, Clearfield. In the best-of-three sets contest, Clearfield and Carbon battled in a close one, but Clearfield came away with the win in straight sets: 25-21, 25-22.
The second and final match on Friday was against Dixie, the No. 11 squad from 4A. The first two sets were competitive, with Dixie coming away with 25-18 and 25-22 wins. However, in the third set, Carbon struggled to find its rhythm, ultimately falling 25-15 and losing the match in three sets.
In the opening match on Saturday, Carbon faced the No. 13 team from 5A, Alta. The Lady Dinos couldn’t find their footing in this one and fell in straight sets 25-16, 25-19, and 25-9.
Carbon would face the Hillcrest Huskies next. Hillcrest is ranked No. 22 in 5A, and unfortunately, it would go down as a loss for the Lady Dinos, but they seemed to find something in this match. Carbon came out in set one, pushing the Huskies in a very competitive game; however, Hilcrest came out on top 25-19. Set two was a little tighter, but the Huskies would take a 25-20 win. In the third set, the Lady Dinos made their push, coming up just short 27-25.
The fifth and final match of the weekend would put the Dinos up against Cottonwood (No.25 in 4A). The first two sets were close, with Carbon coming away with 29-27 and 25-19 wins. The Lady Dinos would close out Cottonwood with a 25-13 victory in the third and final set.
Carbon will now get ready for its trip to Castle Dale to face the Emery Lady Spartans on Tuesday. The Lady Spartans are ranked No. 12, and they are searching for their first Region 13 win as well.
Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Spartans Center.
