Pinnacle Panther baseball welcomed the top 1A baseball team to Price on Friday, the Panguitch Bobcats. The Panthers were coming off a loss earlier in the week to Valley, the No. 3-ranked team in the state. Panguitch is always a tough draw, and on Friday, they used a big second inning to get the 18-1 win over Pinnacle.
Pinnacle sits at 7-8 overall and has a 4-6 region mark. The Panthers currently sit at No. 7 in the latest rankings. Last Wednesday, the Panthers were handed a 10-0 loss at Valley in Orderville.
At home on Friday against the Bobcats, the Panthers celebrated their seniors: Brody Howell, Joey Howell, Domonick Huitt, Riley Davis, Kyson Sayre, Dominick Vigil, and Nikko Ortega for their contributions to the Panther Baseball program.
Panguitch put one run on the board in the top of the first. Still, it was the second where they started to take control of the contest, putting up six runs to post a 7-0 lead headed into the bottom of the second, when the Panthers would collect their only run of the game when Dominick Vigil would ground out to short, bringing Riley Davis home. Panguitch would go on to score four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and four more in the fifth to close out the Panthers 18-1 in five innings.
Brody Howell was 2-2 at the plate for Pinnacle, Domonick Huitt went 1-2, Davis was 1-2 with a run scored, and Vigil earned an RBI in the loss.
Brody Howell got the start on the mound, putting in four innings of work, giving up 14 runs, 13 earned, on 14 hits, while striking out three. Joey Howell closed out the game, going one inning, surrendering four runs, three earned, on three hits, and striking out one.
On Wednesday, the Panthers will travel to face the Piute Thunderbirds, the No. 4 team in 1A. This will be a double header as well as the regular season finale, with the postseason starting on October 3.
