The Utah State Eastern men’s soccer team continued its hot streak with wins over Truckee Meadows Community College and the College of Southern Idaho. The two wins extended the Eagles’ win streak to five matches, bringing their season record to 6-1-2.
The first match of the weekend was a contest with the Truckee Meadows Community College Lizards in Reno, Nevada.
Brody Stanton scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, igniting the Eagles’ offensive attack. Owen Gaisford joined the party with Eastern’s second goal in the 33rd minute, pushing the Eagles’ lead to 2-0. Just five minutes later, Stanton scored his second goal of the match to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead just before halftime.
In the second half, Eastern scored in the 80th minute on a Theo Villela goal to give Eastern its fourth win in a row, 4-0.
Next was a match with the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles, a matchup between the top two teams in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
Luke Wight scored in the 10th minute to give Eastern an early 1-0 lead. CSI answered in the 25th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Southern Idaho dominated the first half, attempting eight shots, four corner kicks, and forcing three Eastern saves.
Utah State Eastern completely controlled the second half. In the 49th minute, Leandro Robles scored to break the tie, 2-1 in favor of the Eagles. Luke Wight’s second goal of the match gave Eastern a 3-1 lead in the 53rd minute. Owen Gasiford scored in the 81st minute, and Brody Stanton scored in the 88th to officially put away the match.
The 5-1 win over CSI puts the Eagles in sole possession of first place in the SWAC standings.
The Eagles will next face the Snow College Badgers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4.
