Green River Pirate baseball found themselves on the road on Friday to take on the Valley Buffalo in Orderville. This game was a battle from start to finish, but unfortunately, the Pirates couldn’t close the gap, and the Buffalo came away with a 5-3 win.
The Pirates earned the No. 14 spot in the final rankings and drew Valley, the No. 3 position. This marked the third time that the two teams faced each other, with the Buffalos coming away with wins in each contest.
Green River struck first and held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth when Valley tied things up. At the top of the fifth, when David Mendez hit a line drive to right field, and after an error on the right fielder, Jason Hernandez and Carlos Reyes would score to put the Pirates back up 3-1. Valley came back in the fifth and the sixth innings to put four more runs and retake the lead to 5-3, and that’s where it would stay, as the Buffalos took the win, closing the season for the Pirates.
Cristian Mendoza racked up a pair of hits at the plate and had one run scored for the Pirates. Gabriel Quintana was 1-3 with an RBI, and Jason Hernandez was 1-4 with a run. Carlos Reyes scored a run in the loss.
