East Carbon City Council candidate Brad Adams joined the KOAL newsroom to discuss his campaign and what changes he looks to make if elected.

Speaking first on his reason to run, Adams stated,” I moved into East Carbon and just noticed that there’s a lot that needs to be changed.”

Holding no previous political experience, Adams is a newcomer to the city council scene. However, he cited his experiences as a coal miner and as an elder’s quorum president in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as preparation for a potential seat through skills he learned,” Being able to settle arguments and just get to know people. It’s best to know somebody and to talk to them through it. I’m good at helping people settle issues.”

Diving deeper into the matter, Adams described how he would go about settling disagreements,” I would talk to both sides and listen to what they have to say. I would see what their issues are, and then see if I can work it out and mush it together; just smooth it over and make sure everybody’s got their voice listened to and included.”

A significant issue that East Carbon battles on a near-yearly basis is water shortages. Adams discussed how he would approach this issue if elected: “I would like to see a new water source of some sort so we don’t have to have these restrictions on watering. There are lots of different ideas that have come up that I’ve heard walking around town and talking to people, but it seems like they’re all gonna cost a lot of money. So then it comes into finding grants, and that makes it even harder, because from what I’ve heard, it’s pretty hard to get a grant for water.”

Closing our conversation, Adams shared why he believes the citizens of East Carbon should vote for him come Nov. 4,” I think because I can make a difference, I can make a real difference.”
