Joy Lynn Johnson McFarlane passed away on October 8, 2025, at her home in Cleveland, surrounded by her family. She was born September 4, 1948, to Clement and Crystal Johnson of Cleveland, the youngest of eight children.
She married the love of her life, Ernie McFarlane, on May 2, 1964, and together they had three children, Cory, Darren, and Molly.
Joy had many passions in her life: her family, reading, teaching, the outdoors, baking, games and puzzles, arts and crafts, a love of animals, music, and bringing the flowers in front of her house back year after year. She passed them on to her children and grandchildren.
To know Joy was to love her. Whether you were in her home, camping in the desert, or on the mountain, she would do everything she could to make sure you felt welcome. She always made everything wonderful and fun.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Ernie; children, Cory (Niomi) McFarlane of Clawson, Darren (Deana) McFarlane of Auburn, Washington, and Molly (Dave) Hocanson of Helper; grandchildren, Tylie (Dan) Mahoney, Erydin (Steve) Bacon, Rory (Angela) McFarlane, Mika McFarlane, Bryce Hocanson, and Peyton Hocanson; along with seven great-grandchildren.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.
The family is grateful for the help provided by the staff at Parkdale Care Center and Community Nursing Services for the assistance provided over the last few years.
As with Mom’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. All we ask is the next time you are out exploring, have a beer and don’t look up, look down… that’s where all the cool rocks are.
Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Joy online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
