Starting on Thursday, October 9, the Lady Dinos entered State Championship play, which began at Brighton High School and concluded at Liberty Park on Friday and Saturday. Carbon finished in seventh out of 25 schools that took part in the event, and the Lady Dinos also had some great individual performances as well to close out the season.

Rowland Hall earned the top spot in the team scoring, followed by Morgan. American Heritage Schools, Logan High School, and Grantsville rounded out the top five. Carbon was the top representative for Region 13 in seventh.

Lisa King earned the No. 6 seed in first singles, earning an opening-round bye. King took on Marvella Young from Delta in the round of 16. King dispatched her 6-2 and 6-4. Moving into the quarterfinals, she faced Macey Dee of Morgan,  falling 6-0 and 6-4. Dee would go on to take the runner-up spot to Scarlett Corey of Rowland Hall.

In second singles, Jessi King claimed the No. 6 spot, granting her a first-round bye. In the round of 16, she faced Summer Johnson of North Sanpete, taking the straight set win 6-0 and 6-2. In the quarterfinals, she faced Sophie Shirazi of Waterford, who ended Jessi King’s season 6-0 and 6-1. Shirazi went on to finish runner-up in second singles, losing to Vyvian Bailey of Morgan.

Leah Sweeney earned the No. 16 spot in third singles, opening up against Marin Brough of Union. Sweeney took the hard-fought match in straight sets 6-4 and 6-1, moving into the round of 16, where she ran into the No.1 third singles player, Isabella Dickman of Morgan. Dickman won the match in straight sets 6-0 and 6-1. Dickman would eventually take runner-up, falling to Avalon O’Connell of Rowland Hall.

In first doubles, Emily Dufour and Ireland Keil sat in the No. 7 spot, giving them a first-round bye. In the round of 16, they faced Danyou Tang and Nitya Sunkara of Waterford, with the Lady Dino duo taking the win in straight sets 6-2 and 6-3. In their quarterfinals match, they would take on Annie Pearson and Grace Davis of American Heritage, falling 6-3 and 6-2. The duo from American Heritage would take runner-up to Jane Borst and Savanna O’Connell, of  Rowland Hall.

Gianna Valdez and Emme Stockdale were the second doubles representatives for Carbon, earning the No. 5 seed, giving them a first-round bye. They ran into Malia Schlappi and Mariah Schlappi of North Sanpete in the round of 16, falling 7-5 and 6-1. Malia Schlappi and Mariah Schlappi fell in the quarters to Chloe Dutson and Rylee Telford of Morgan.
