The Carbon Dinos took the long trek south on Thursday, Oct. 17, as they prepared to close out the regular season against the top-ranked Cedar Reds in Cedar City. The Reds showed why they hold the No. 1 ranking, delivering a complete performance and defeating the Dinos 63-0.
Cedar wasted no time getting on the board in the first quarter, scoring three times in the frame. This opening burst was led by senior quarterback Everett Kelling, who scored once on a seven-yard run and a second time on a connection to tight end Max Gines for a four-yard score. At the end of one, the score sat at 21-0.
In the second quarter, Kelling again did a bulk of the work, connecting on three touchdown passes to elevate the Cedar lead to a daunting 42-0 edge heading into halftime.
The scoring barrage slowed down in the second half, with Cedar scoring twice in the third as backup quarterback Jackson Mann scrambled into the end zone on a designed run and Daxton DeMille sprinted 19 yards across the goal line to elevate the advantage to 56-0.
The Reds tacked one more touchdown on the board in the final frame, boosting their lead to 63-0 as they completed their first undefeated regular season since the 1980s.
With the loss, Carbon closes the regular season with a final record of 2-8 overall and 0-6 in region play.
The Dinos now await the release of the Utah High School Activities Association final rankings on Saturday, Oct. 18.
