
The Carbon Lady Dinos are one of four teams remaining in the 3A State Soccer Championships after their hard fought win over the Logan Grizzlies on Saturday. Malia Smith added one goal and Madi Barlow earned her 11th shutout of the season in the 1-0 win to advance to the semifinals.
Carbon earned their oppurtunity to face Logan after their 12-0 win over Providence Hall. Logan, the No. 10 seed had the upset victory over Union to advance to face the No. 2 Lady Dinos.
Both teams played even in the first half with neither being able to find the gaps in the others defense. In the second half, Carbon’s perseverance paid off as Smith found the back of the net for the lone goal to give the Dinos the 1-0 victory.
Smith collected the lone goal in the contest off of the assist from Emma Bowman. Madi Barlow collected six saves on her way to the shutout.
Carbon advances to the semifinals to face Region 13 foe No. 3 Manti, who enters the contest at 13-4 after their 3-1 win over Richfield in the quarterfinals.
In the two meetings this season Carbon came out on top in both. On September 9 in Manti, the Lady Dinos earned the 2-1 victory and then on September 25 in Price, Carbon took the 3-1 win.
A loss for the Dinos will end the season, a win advances them to the Championship match on Saturday at America First Field.
The semifinals will take place on October 23 at Zions Bank Stadium at 4:30 p.m..
