Seeking to create a cleaner, more sustainable Castle Country, the Green Team of Carbon County is pushing to raise citizens’ awareness of the environmental services it offers.

Liz Trostle from the Green Team joined the KOAL newsroom to discuss the organization, its mission and how the public can get involved.

“The Green Team is a group of volunteers who just want to educate and inspire our community to capture more of those recyclable materials that could be ending up in the landfill, so we assist others by offering different services. We have trailers that recycle paper and aluminum, and we also have trailers that recycle cardboard. We have one there at the Prehistoric Museum and behind Market Express,” explained Trostle. “We are here to empower our community to help them and be a servant to them in making our community more green.”

Over the past six months, the Green Team has collected over 12 tons of paper for recycling, preventing it from going to the landfill. Additionally, the organization collects half a ton of cardboard for baling and recycling every 10 days.

“We are blessed to have Loveless Ash allow us to use their baler and bale all of our cardboard there. It really does take all the members, the small businesses and the businesses in our community to help us succeed in this, because it is a community effort. We are very blessed to have so many different organizations and businesses collaborating with us,” said Trostle.”

Speaking on getting involved with the group, Trostle shared,” They can find us on Facebook. The Green Team of Carbon County is our page, and that’s where we have all of our info … We also meet on the second Thursday of the month at noon.”

Community members who would like to become involved with the Green Team of Carbon County are encouraged to contact Liz & Jeremy Trostle at jeremytrostle@yahoo.com.

The Green Team has trailers placed across Carbon County, including at the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum, Sutherlands, Helper City Hall, Pin Heads Bowling Alley, Creekview Elementary, Carbon High School, Mont Harmon Middle School’s rear parking lot and Market Express.

Closing our conversation, Trostle shared,” I would just encourage everyone to think about what you can do as a family and make that small difference. Teach the kids what they can and say, ‘OK, can I take this aluminum can and keep it in my car, and can I recycle it somewhere rather than throw it in the trash can?’ And if everybody makes that little effort, I think we’ll see what a beautiful community we have and just how blessed we are to live here.”
