The mood was jovial at the Desert Wave Pool on Friday, Oct. 24, as the pool staff were honored by Price City for an accident-free year.
“I just want to say I’m super proud that you guys went a whole year, knowing how much fun you guys like to have, without hurting yourself,” said Aquatics Supervisor Tamara Gray. “My main concern is that you guys all go home safe. This is your first job. You’re young. I don’t want you to hurt yourselves in the long run… I want you to know I do appreciate that you guys stay safe and the responsibility you have. I pray for you guys every night that you will be able to stay safe and keep everyone else safe.”
Following Gray, Price City mayor Mike Kourianos addressed the employees: “Thanks for what you’re doing. I appreciate your hard work for us and the community.”
Added the mayor,” The other part is, parents can trust you with the kids. I’ve had people call me when there’s been a rescue in the pool and talk about the examples you are … You carry yourself with confidence and serve as an example to others. The other part is a great work atmosphere. You want to come to work and contribute. The pool is not the easiest to keep going and maintain. There’s a lot of pumps, and water and chemicals. It takes a special person to have that ownership in the facility.”
Next, Community Director Nick Tatton spoke to the group,” The city’s broken into a bunch of different work teams, and you guys should be very proud because all the other work teams didn’t make it the whole year. So be very proud of what you did. You’re setting a good example for the rest of the city.”
As a reward for their combined accomplishment, each employee was presented with a pin inscribed with a gold star and the phrase “You make a difference.”
